The Kikuichi Company has a long and distinguished history - Some seven hundred years ago, the Emperor Gotoba authorized their family ancestor, Shiro Kanenaga, to be one of his sword smiths. For the next several hundred years, their family manufactured samurai swords that bore the emperors chrysanthemum symbol, or "Kiku-no-mon," as a mark of their excellence.
When the Meiji Revolution brought an end to the samurai era in 1868, Kikuichi re-invented itself as a maker of cutlery. Their tradition of sword making begun so long ago it is something that Kikuichi is proud to carry on in the high standard of craftsmanship they apply to the cutlery they produce today. Unlike ordinary stainless steel knives, the sharpness of Kikuichi knives is easily maintained.
