Messy, raucous, primal, and a heck of a lot of fun to boot; it's you and your favored crustacean tools pitted against the shell of a crab. But before you can dig in you need to cook the crabs, and for that a large kettle such as this is in order.

      This pot is perfect for steaming live, Maryland blue crabs. The steamer insert holds, approximately, up to 2.5 dozen #1 size crabs. The pot can be used on an indoor gas range or outdoor propane high pressure cooker. Remove lid and steamer insert, add a liquid mix of 24 to 30 ounces of beer and 24 to 30 ounces of white vinegar to the bottom of the pot. I always add a few generous dashes of old bay directly to the liquid mix as well. Heat the liquid mixture on high, until the liquid is almost to a boil. Lower heat source and carefully place the steamer insert back in the pot, add live crabs one at a time, belly down. Once a layer of crabs have been added, add your favorite seasonings, then add another layer of crabs and season, etc. Once all of your live crabs have been added or steamer insert is close to being full, cover pot tightly with aluminum foil (optional), place lid on pot, turn heat source back up to high and steam for about 30 to 35 minutes on indoor gas range, 25 minu
